We’re thrilled to announce the hiring of Mr. Parker Gilley, who will be taking over as the Joshua Program Director this fall and has already joined us on a part-time basis, helping build out our campus while learning the ropes of running the Joshua Program.
Parker grew up in the pine forests of northwest Florida on his family’s farm. His earliest rites of passage were planting and tending tomatoes and watermelons, mucking cow pens, and defending his chickens (with varying success) from possums. He was introduced to great books by good teachers at a young age and never looked back. He received a BA from Samford University in Philosophy, English, and Classics and an MA in Classics at the University of Kentucky, where he specialized in active language approaches to teaching Latin and Ancient Greek.
Parker has taught students of all ages a number of subjects, including Latin, Greek, Calculus, Algebra, Rhetoric, and Writing. He has declaimed Plato at Delphi, conducted original translations of Neo-Latin poetry, and tended a healthy herb garden in several states, but has been entirely eluded by the secret to his wife’s biscuits. When he is not giving his boys, Vergil and Basil, bike rides, you can find him memorizing poetry, writing, playing soccer, and walking barefoot. His family attends All Saints Anglican church in Ivy, Virginia, where he and his wife, Hannah, were confirmed.
He hopes to form the young men at St. Dunstan’s with a joy and love for the inexhaustible excitement of a life lived excellently, outdoors, and for the glory of the Lord.
